SnoopS from Stuff and Things here,
This is the second in a regular series we will be doing on the Stuff And Things AU Blogs.
Each one will be focusing on a fix/repair/improvement job with Sugru and will explain the steps we took to do that job.
This time we will be doing a quick repair job on a micro USB phone charge cable,
where the protective plastic shield had broken off and left the plug exposed.
I did this quick fix, right after I finished repairing my shoe last time, so I used the left over Sugru from that job.
Remember : after opening a pack of sugru it will start to set, so make sure you use it all in the first couple of hours.
First off I cleaned and dried the surfaces I was going to apply the sugru to.
Next I got a very small amount of sugru and smeared a thin layer on the inside of the plastic case for the micro USB cable.
Pressing the two halves of the case onto the micro USB caused some excess Sugru to squeeze out. I scraped off any excess
Sugru and worked it into any gaps I had around the sides.
Using my left over Sugru, I flattened it and wrapped it around the cable and bottom of the plastic case. This adds extra strength,
helps hold it all together, and gives you a handle to help unplug it in future.
Clean up any extra Sugru around the edges with a knife, or piece of plastic.
You can make a smoothe surface by wetting a finger or a cloth and gently rubbing the sugru all over, or add a texture with a nail.
Use a damp cloth or paper towel to clean up the area around your sugru repair, removing any fingerprints or smudges on the
surfaces aound your job.
Lastly, place your repaired micro USB cable onto something that will keep the Sugru off any surfaces for 24 hours while it sets.
I chose a coffee mug, as it was close by, and most people have them.
